The year was 1969, the race was Bathurst Hardie Ferodo 500 and a young rookie, Peter Brock, was making his debut drive for the Holden Dealer Team in a HG Monaro, car 43D. Recruited by Harry Firth and driving along side co-driver Des West, Brock finished a respectable third place. 2009 marks the 40th Anniversary of this historic start in racing and a Super event in celebration was recently hosted at Champions Brock Experience in Yeppoon, Qld.

Champions Brock Experience is the largest collection of its type in the country and houses over 30 original Peter Brock Road and Race Cars, along with a vast array of Professional and Personal Memorabilia from Peter Brocks vast motoring history. The original 43D HG Monaro that Peter Brock and Des West drove that year is sitting in the showcase at The Experience and was basking in the spotlight.

With an array of special guests in attendance and a very attentive audience, the evening was a huge success. Motoring legend Harry Firth, Peters’ co-driver in 43D, Mr Des West, HDT co-driver Larry Perkins and his son, current V8 Super car driver, Jack Perkins. Also sharing some of their more memorable moments of their time with HDT and Peter Brock were co-driver David Parsons and Team co-hort Graeme ‘Mort’ Brown. Their many adventures were enjoyed by all the guests that attended. We were also very privileged to be joined by Bev Brock for this celebration.

All the guests on the evening were treated to the Peter Brock – The Legend Light and Sound Show and were able to purchase specially produced 40th Anniversary merchandise from the Brock Shop. Many stories and great historical information was shared and accompanied by a great slide show. Harry Firth also unveiled his extensive Trophy collection that was recently acquired by Peter Champion for the Brock Experience.

The evening of celebration ended with an amazing finale of the starting of all four of the HDT Marlboro Commodores at once. The smell, the noise and the adrenalin was spine tingling. It was a great celebration and one we are sure all will remember.
